A mobile phone case you’ve made yourself. How cool is that?

3 April, 2018 | Craft kit themes, Sewing and weaving, Sewing felt

If you have a mobile phone, you can make a great mobile phone case for it out of felt.

Copy our designs or invent your own. The measurements of these cases will fit the iPhone 6. If you have a different phone, measure it and add 1 cm all the way round when cutting out the rectangular pieces of felt to make the front and the back of your case. Templates for the different designs can be downloaded from our website.

The phone case in this picture is made from materials from one of our fun themed kits that you get if you’re a Club Creo member. Take a look at our massively popular Welcome Pack here.

A cool monster for the front of your phone case?

Here’s how: Cut out two pieces of black felt 9 cm x 16 cm (measurements fit the iPhone 6). Cut out other pieces for the design – teeth, eyes and hair.

Sew a line for a mouth using green thread. Glue on teeth, eyes and the hair. Press the pieces down so they stick properly. Let the glue dry before sewing the two pieces of black felt together. The top should stay open so you can get the phone in.

Or what about a cute rabbit design?

Instructions: Cut out two pieces of red felt 9 cm x 16 cm (measurements fit the iPhone 6). Cut out the other pieces for the design.

Sew the blue piece of felt onto the rabbit and sew a black cross in the middle. Glue on the nose and sew a few stitches for eyes and a line for the nose. Sew the rabbit onto one red piece of felt.

Cut out a yellow circle and a pink circle. Sew the pink circle on top of the yellow circle around the edge and finish off by sewing a button into the middle, sewing it onto the red felt at the same time. Sew on the yellow flower and then the buttons in the middle and the buttons on the ears. Finally, sew both the red pieces together and hey presto, you’ve got a great-looking mobile phone case!

Or is a fun cat mobile phone case more you?

Instructions: Cut out a piece of light blue felt 9 cm x 16 cm and another piece 9 cm x 20 cm (measurements fit the iPhone 6). Cut rounded corners at the bottom if you like. Cut out the other pieces for the design.

Glue on the cat’s nose and sew a mouth with black thread. Then sew on the whole face. Sew on the ears and the pink bow. Glue green eyes onto the face and sew on buttons and then sew on the button on the bow.

Sew the front and back of the case together using blanket stitch. If this is too tricky, you can use ordinary running stitch. Where the back is sticking up, cut it into a semicircle and sew on a button to make a flap.

Make a loop about 4 cm down on the front so you can close the case. Use doubled thread and thread it through from the inside to the front. Loop it round the button to see how big the loop needs to be. When the loop is the right size, make a knot on the front and on the inside.
