Make fun sculptures using plaster bandages!

Craft using plaster bandages, a perfect material if you want to quickly see the results. It can get a bit messy but it’s loads of fun! You won’t want to stop!

Here we made outlines from aluminium wire and then wrapped them in plaster bandages.

Plaster bandage sculptures

You will need:

  • Plaster bandages
  • Bendable aluminium wire
  • Hobby paint
  • Water

You can find plaster bandages in most hobby shops or at a pharmacy.

Instructions:

  1. Make an outline for your sculpture using the aluminium wire.
  2. Dampen the plaster bandages and wrap them round the wire. Two or three layers should be enough.
  3. Shape smaller bits of plaster bandage to make ears, beaks, tails or wings and attach them to your sculpture. Use your fingers to “squidge” them onto the body. You kind of massage them in.
  4. When the plaster has completely dried, you can paint your sculpture.

You can draw on details like eyes, mouth, hair or patterns with ordinary felt tips. Then decorate your sculpture with glitter glue, sparkly bits, buttons or anything else you have at home.
