10 Easter craft ideas for kids!

Easter is a great opportunity to sit down and do some crafts together.

Here we’ve put together some fun and easy Easter craft ideas for all the family.

There are lots of fun things you can make to celebrate Easter and the coming of spring. You could make your own Easter cards, decorate Easter twigs, make decorations for the table or make some great decorations to go on the wall.

See how you and your children can make lovely Easter chicks, chickens, Easter bunnies or beautiful Easter wreaths. Use toilet rolls, egg boxes, paper, card, felt, lolly sticks or salt dough for Easter crafts.

Useful craft equipment!

One really useful thing to have for crafting is a glue gun. But it does make the glue very hot so you need to be careful when using it. If you have small children helping, it’s best to use ordinary hobby glue. If you’re going to invest in a glue gun, it’s a good idea to buy some extra glue sticks at the same time. They will always get used and it will stop you running out.

1. Make your own Easter cards

2. Easter bunnies out of lolly sticks

Cute little Easter bunnies made from ordinary lolly sticks make lovely Easter decorations.

Materials:

Lolly sticks, glue, pink and white card, googly eyes and bows. Our lolly sticks are 11 cm long.

Instructions:

• Glue two lolly sticks next to each other side by side and glue half a lolly stick on the back for extra support. You can lie them on a piece of tin foil or clingfilm while the glue dries.
• Paint the lolly sticks white and leave to dry.
• While you are waiting, cut ears, feet and cheeks out of white paper.

Cut pads for the feet, noses and the insides of the ears out of pink paper.

3. Easter craft ideas – clothes peg chickens

These daft, colourful chickens are made from ordinary wooden clothes pegs. This is an easy, fun Easter craft idea that children of all ages can do.

Materials:
Wooden clothes pegs, hobby paint, googly eyes, feathers and orange paper for the beaks.

Instructions:

• Paint the clothes peg in a base colour and leave to dry.
• Paint patterns on top in a different colour.
• We made the dots using a cotton bud and used a match to make the lines. Dab the match with paint and press it against the clothes peg.

Glue on eyes, cut out a beak and glue feathers to the back.

4. Lolly stick Easter chicks

A fun, easy Easter craft using lolly sticks. These cute Easter chicks could hang on branches or twigs or in a window.

Materials: Lolly sticks, glue, hobby paint, yellow and orange stiff paper and patterned paper, feathers and decorations such as sparkles, glitter glue and sequins.
Our lolly sticks are 6 cm long.

Instructions:

• Glue three lolly sticks together into a triangle.
• Paint the lolly sticks in the colour of your choice and leave to dry.
• While you are waiting, cut out wings, legs, heads and a little comb for the top of the head.
• Cut out a triangle of patterned paper and glue it behind your lolly sticks.
• Glue on the other pieces of paper and the feathers.
• Decorate your Easter chicks with sparkles, sequins and glitter glue.

5. Easy Easter craft ideas – Easter bunnies and Easter chicks from toilet rolls

Empty toilet rolls are ideal for Easter crafts that can be done by children of all ages! Make cute little chickens, cool cockerels or bouncy little Easter bunnies. You can either paint them with hobby paint or cover them in paper.

Materials:

• Toilet rolls and kitchen roll tubes
• Hobby paint
• Paper
• Feathers
• Googly eyes
• Glue

Fill them with small Easter eggs or sweets and use to decorate the table.

6. Sew felt Easter chicks

Felt is fun to sew with and it’s quite quick too. These colourful little Easter chicks could sit on twigs as an Easter table decoration or you could hang them up in the window.

Materials:

• Felt
• Embroidery thread
• Googly eyes

Instructions:

1. First cut out all the pieces.
2. Sew the chicks’ bodies together. Push the wings and comb in between the layers as you go along.
3. Cut a piece of yarn, about 15 cm long, and tie a knot in the end.
4. Thread it through the feet and attach to the opening at the bottom.
5. Cut out a beak and glue it on. Glue on the eyes.

7. Easter bunny hanging decoration

Another great Easter craft idea is making a garland with an Easter bunny in a burrow with colourful hanging Easter eggs. A fun, cheap Easter craft that everyone can do.

Materials:

• Strong paper
• String
• Materials to decorate

Instructions:

1. Cut out an oval and cut a round hole in the middle. Cut out all the parts for the bunny. There are templates here.
2. Glue the bunny to the back of the ring and the paws to the front.
3. Cut out different sized Easter eggs and decorate them in a variety of ways. You could cut different shapes out of different coloured paper and glue them on, or add sequins, sparkles or glitter glue.
4. Glue the Easter eggs to pieces of string the same distance apart. It’s a good idea to finish by tying something to each end to weigh the string down, like a medium-sized bead.

8. Fun Easter craft ideas. Egg box wreath.

Empty egg boxes usually end up in the recycling or the compost bin. Don’t throw them away! You can make loads of cool things out of egg boxes. Like this beautiful Easter wreath.

Materials:

• Egg boxes
• Hobby paint
• Glue
• String
• Materials to decorate

Instructions:

1. Draw a ring on a piece of cardboard for the base. Use a bowl or a plate for the outer circle and a smaller plate or bowl for the inner circle. You want your ring to be about 4 cm wide.
2. Cut it out and paint it green, or any colour you like.
3. Cut flowers and leaves out of the egg boxes. We’ve shown some examples of how to make flowers.
4. Paint the flowers different colours and leave to dry.
5. Glue the flowers and leaves to the cardboard ring.
6. Glue ribbon or string onto the back so you can hang up your Easter wreath.

9. Colourful paper egg wreath

Welcome Easter with a colourful wreath of paper eggs.

Materials:

• Cardboard for the base
• Thick paper for the eggs. Ideally single colour and patterned.
• Hobby glue
• Ribbon
• Materials to decorate

Instructions:

1. Cut a ring out of sturdy cardboard. This will be the base of your wreath and you will glue your eggs onto it. You could use a paper plate and cut a circle out of the middle. Our ring has an outer diameter of 24 cm and the hole has a diameter of 16 cm. This means the ring will be 4 cm wide.
2. Cut eggs out of coloured paper all the same size.
3. Place them on the ring first to make sure they are evenly spaced all the way round and mark their positions with a pencil. Then glue them on one by one. If you want to make your wreath look like ours, glue the patterned eggs on first and then glue the single-colour eggs on top.
4. Cut out some flowers and glue them to the eggs.
5. Glue on a bow made from ribbon or string. We used raffia. You can usually find it in florists.
6. A rabbit popping up to say Happy Easter is a fun detail.

10. Salt dough Easter eggs

All children love playing with dough! And it’s really easy to make your own dough using ingredients you’ve usually got in the house. We’ve shown a recipe for salt dough below.

It’s easy to work and you can make all kinds of things with it. With Easter coming up, you could make eggs to hang from branches or put in an Easter basket. Paint them in bright colours and decorate with different coloured glitter glue. The dots are made using a cotton bud.

Basic SALT DOUGH recipe

• Mix flour, salt, water and oil to make a pliable dough. Add a bit more water if it’s too dry and a bit more flour if it’s too sticky.
• You can colour it by kneading in food colouring.
• Use it to model whatever you like. If you want your designs to last longer, bake them in the centre of the oven for 2–4 hours at 100ºC until they are completely dry and hard. The time will depend on how thick your models are.
• If you want to make Easter eggs and be able to hang them up, you need to make a hole for the string before you bake them. Use a toothpick or skewer to make a hole.
• When the eggs are dry, paint and decorate them however you like.
